[ Excerpt from Chapter Ten ]

"......Keith points to the poster in the display window and reads the words out loud. “Nice poster. I like the captioning, ‘Let Love Lead The Way.’ Brilliant.” He smiles and tries to ignite a conversation. Seeing her lack of response, he adds, “Oh I get it, you’re still mad at me aren’t you?”

Impatiently, Karina taps her feet on the floor and remains unspoken. She waits for him to give up so she can continue shopping and gazes up at the cotton candy clouds floating in the effervescent blue sky.

Sensing her indifference, he assures her of his innocent intent. “Well, I’m no longer undercover. The case on Risso is closed and I am not on duty. I have nothing to hide anymore. Can I have one chance to show you who I really am? Please?” He begs, “You might like the real Keith Pelzer. Just give me one chance.” He tries to engage her enthusiasm.

Karina’s love life has been vacant and uninteresting for months and frankly she could use some distraction. Swiftly she changes her mind and acts mischievously to give him a taste of his own medicine.

Flirtatiously she smiles and in the most sensual way, she inches closely and reciprocates his gaze, “That’s unfortunate.” She speaks alluringly with her lusciously glossed lips dangerously close to his and continues teasing him,

“Now that you have nothing to hide, I still cannot see you because I might be the one with something to hide.”

EXCERPT from "Fallen - The 4th Angel":

"Hiding inside the safe room of his laboratory, Tatiana is clinging onto her father's leg and is trembling at the deafening sounds of a massive chain explosion coming from above. She screams in fright as the floors and walls begin to rumble and she fears that the ceiling might crumble upon them at any given moment. Crying hysterically, she bends her head while shivering and stares into her father's worn out leather shoes.

"Tatiana" her father tightens his fists in anticipation of the worse moment to arrive, "Tatiana" he repeatedly calls out her name but she has become non responsive. Her eyes are opened wide and her focus remains fixated on his shoes, breathing heavily her lips part to gasp for the rapidly dissipating air. She hears another explosion and shuts her eyes as tightly as she could and chants to herself, "this is only bad dream, this is only a bad dream ..wake up, wake up, wake up!" she mumbles as she prays.

Realizing that his daughter is in shock, he bends down on his knees and lifts her head so she can see him. Time is running out and he knows he must act quickly. "Tatiana, listen to me," he shakes her vigorously to disturb her absence "listen to me!" he commands, pries open her closed fist and slips a pendant onto her palm, closing her hand into a fist again he engages her stare and speaks solemnly "hang on tight to this pendant and never lose it, in case we get separated, this will be our only link and just remember" he continues bravely and watches her cry, "whatever happens to us today, do NOT lose this. It is our lifeline."

They hear gunshots followed by the screaming of voices; she hears two men screaming at each other in an oddly bizarre sounding and unfamiliar language. She watches her father pull to a stand and begs him, "daddy please don't leave me, please don't leave me here all by myself!" With tears in his eyes he looks down at his daughter, "I will never leave you Tatiana; just remember, never lose this pendant and guard it with your life!"

Shots are fired at the door of the safe room and startles Tatiana to scream again. At this devastating moment her father shouts at the men behind the door, "Don't shoot! Don't shoot! There is a child in here .. I am opening up the door. Don't shoot!" Her father begins to move towards the door; Tatiana refuses to let go of his leg and clings on to him with eyes shut tight. At merely twelve years of age, the disturbance is beyond her comprehension. Her heart is pounding and is about to burst out of her chest, her ears are hurting from the piercing explosions and she is traumatized.

The only thing she is capable of doing at this moment, is to keep her fist as tightly held as possible so she does not lose the pendant that her father is entrusting her with .....

"The dreamiest puffs of white cotton candy clouds afloat the sweet tranquil sky. Harmoniously, the silver moon hangs joyously to serenade the silent whispers of the gentle breeze as the observing palms sway playfully to reflect the dazzle of its aura.

A delectable urge fills the air and it is obvious that he has fallen for the wildest fantasy of her touch, her luscious lips that parts to angle perfectly on the nape of his neck and imaginably, everything else that she might be capable of doing for him. She is no more than a stranger to him but in her mysterious ways, she provokes his desire to entangle her with all his affection and to shower her with his insatiable need of conquest.

He can hear the sounds of a symphony playing in his mind as he watches the strands of her hair floating in the warm summer breeze. Before a book becomes a book, fully written with twists and turn, surprises, shockers and stunners, it all begins as a simple idea in the mind. Then we plot, develop and grow it into something real, something touchable, like the Miami's Sexiest Author Award that I won on June 22nd.

Well the mind, let me see what I can say about my mind. Besides the fact that I have an IQ of 147, I contradict myself all the time and flip sides between my right brain and left brain. I'm a Gemini Cancer cusp and for those who are familiar with astrology, you'll know what I'm talking about. So let's put it this way, my mind is forever over active with multiple thoughts that orbit around my head. (giggles)

Seriously now, an idea, a vision, a dream for whatever it may be, a book, screenplay, project, business plan or a campaign, it's nothing until we convert it into something real. I'm sure that everyone has a few ideas too, so don't just keep them in the mind, lay them down so you can write up a spectacular life story of your own.

'.......Defiant yet vulnerable, Taylor becomes less communicative and chooses to shut down from the once opened connection that she has established with Ivan. Frightened to cross the line and to ruin a perfectly built friendship, she avoids the mortification of probable rejections and secretly admires him from afar. After all, he may not feel the same way she does and moreover, she might be better off with uncommitted and random thrills that have kept her going for as long as she could remember.

Misconceiving her predicament as expectations, Ivan refrains from conversations and limits the frequency of their meetings.

As if an ice barrier erects between them, their unspoken words are beginning to affect their friendship and a huge amount of vagueness fills the air between them and pushes them apart.

Neither of them is disposed to taking any risks and chooses to remain contentedly nestled within their own obstinacy, but deep within his heart, if Taylor finds a way to accept the fact that she feels a certain fondness towards him, he will be willing to give it a try. However delicate, he finds it impossible to read between her vigilantly constructed lines.

Entering his office Taylor places her flash drive on his desk and without a word she exits. Ivan is now baffled by her sudden change of attitude, raises an eyebrow and watches her walk back to her office. He inserts the flash drive into his laptop and opens up the final version of “Broken”, speed reading and going through all the changes that they have discussed, he finally feels confident to have her book published.

Ivan walks across the corridor and opens the door of Taylor’s office, “I think you’re ready.” He smiles reassuringly.

Taylor blinks and pauses. As if a revelation descends upon her, she looks at him with a perplexed expression on her face,

“Wait,” she pauses and gazes at him intently while taking a deep breath, “it is not ready yet. Maybe she deserves a happy ending instead?”

Ivan laughs lightheartedly and without any implications, “she deserves whatever you decide for her. I am game either way, so surprise me with a new ending.” He smiles and closes the door behind him.

Unsure of what he really means, she watches him walk back to his office, narrows her eyes and mumbles,

“Idiot!” ......'
